Reno-Tahoe Offers Endless Outdoor Fun
Summer Fun Playing Nevada's Golf Courses
Not all of Nevada's green is found on the craps tables or the silvery
sagebrush that dots the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Nevada is home
to more than 100 golf courses and more than 40 are within an hours drive
of Reno, Sparks and Lake Tahoe. Playing such greens as Edgewood Tahoe,
host of the American Century Celebrity Golf in July, and Genoa Lakes Golf
Club in the Carson Valley offers golf enthusiasts a challenging experience
on a championship course and exhilarating scenic vistas of snow-capped
mountains, towering pines, cobalt blue waters or lush green valleys.
Northwestern Nevada offers courses to suit every level of play, geographic
preference and budget. One of the best features about playing golf in
Nevada is that it's a year-round activity, even in Reno, where winter
snowfalls soon melt away in the sunny, dry climate of the high desert.
The elevation of most courses — 4,700 feet and higher — means more pleasant
play in summer. Lake Tahoe's golf courses, all more than 6,200 feet,
are especially inviting when temperatures sizzle. Get all the details
at Golf Travel Nevada.
Road Trip Your Way Through the Divine 9
What has two holes at nine golf courses, takes 12 hours and zigzags nearly 100 miles?
The inaugural "Divine 9 Road Trip," August 4 in the Carson City/Carson Valley area.
Players will attack two holes on each course in groups of eight. After each group
switches holes and completes a course, it's back on the bus to the next challenge
until the final putt drops on the 18th hole of the ninth course. The registration
fee of $295 includes two nights lodging at the Carson Valley Inn (double-occupancy),
a welcome reception on Sunday, awards dinner, 18 holes of golf, shuttle service
between courses, breakfast, traveling lunch, snacks and tee prizes. For more
information or to secure your spot, visit Divine 9
or call 775-588-2412.
Waters of Lake Tahoe Are Area's Most Popular Attraction
Many travelers make their way to North Lake Tahoe every year to see the region's
main attraction — the actual waters of Lake Tahoe. From parasailing to
powerboats, Sea Doos and fishing charters, there's no reason not to be
out on the lake. Kayaking and canoeing may be the most intimate way to
experience Lake Tahoe, and the Lake Tahoe Water Trail allows paddlers to
plan a custom trip around the 72-mile shoreline with its information about
access points, resting places, campgrounds, points of interest and related
facilities. Sailing charters are also available, such as the 50-foot Tahoe
Cruz, which offers cruises throughout the day and evening on the lake.
Lake Tahoe was recently recognized as the #1 U.S. travel destination by
TripAdvisor for 2008 (#10 in the world), and the #1 destination by Orbitz
users for winter 2007-2008. For a complete list of summer activities and events,
