Events and Attractions Throughout the Region
Carson City Has Ghostly Adventures and Statehood Celebration in October
This year’s popular Carson City Ghost Walk,
themed “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” features
90-minute walking tours along one-mile of the historic
Kit Carson Trail on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m.
- 3 p.m. “Haunted Weekend” includes
events throughout spooky Gardnerville, Mottsville
Cemetery and a ghost walk through Genoa. Community
wide celebration of Nevada’s admittance to
the Union features annual Nevada Day Parade – themed “Mysteries
of Nevada – Area 51.” The parade starts
at 8 a.m. with a hot-air balloon launch on Carson
Street followed by a flyover at 10 a.m. Other events
include the RSVP Carnival, Beard Contest, and Grand

A Fabulous Fall Celebration is underway in North
Lake Tahoe. The Kings Beach Passport to Dining,

The Truckee Wine, Walk and Shop showcases historic

Elvis and the Blue Man Group Featured in State Tourism Ad Campaign
The Nevada Commission on Tourism is running an award-winning
national ad campaign that features “Entertainment
Icons” Elvis and the Blue Man Group experiencing
outdoor adventure opportunities at Lake Tahoe. The
humorous Elvis ad, running on Fox News, the Travel
Channel, Discovery and Discovery Science, shows Elvis
characters – not professional impersonators
-- tearing along the Flume Trail above Lake Tahoe,
black wigs askew and red capes flapping, with magnificent
views of the lake. The Blue Man Group is portrayed
in print ads with the trio in a kayak and raft on
blue water beneath a blue sky. The ad can be seen
in National Geographic Adventure, Sunset, Arthur
Frommer’s Budget Travel and other magazines.
John Ascuaga’s Nugget Undergoes a $15-million Room Renovation
A $15-million room renovation is planned for the
East Tower at John
Ascuaga’s Nugget. At once “comfortably
contemporary and soothingly sophisticated,” the
complete interior remodel features modern lines,
rich hues, plasma televisions, granite accents, marble
flooring, luxury bedding, coffee pots and wireless
high-speed internet access. Renovations will begin
in October, one or two floors at a time. The first
rooms will be ready late 2007. John Ascuaga’s
Nugget is a luxury, family-owned resort, featuring
more than 1,600 hotel rooms and an array of first-class
amenities including eight award-winning restaurants,
nearly 1,300 slot machines, table games, Bingo, live
poker, promotions, tournaments, 110,000 square-feet
of meeting space, a year-round atrium pool, world-class
entertainment, full-service salon and health club,
complete business center, and scheduled airport shuttle
service.
South Lake Tahoe’s Latest Addition Features Convention Space, Hotel, Spa and More
The Chateau at Heavenly Village, located in South
Shore Lake Tahoe, will feature 71,000- square-feet
of convention and pre-function area, luxury condo-hotels,
a spa and retail shops. RockResorts International,
LLC, a luxury hotel company owned by Vail Resorts,
Inc., will operate the project. The area’s
largest convention center will accommodate concerts,
large convention groups and various exhibits. The
space holds 1,600 for conference/banquet assembly
and 4,400 for events/concerts. An outdoor swimming
pool is planned, along with a 1.5-acre park and restaurants
with convenient underground parking for 717 vehicles.
Currently, the site is completing mass excavation
and pouring concrete. Projected completion date is
early winter 2009. The project is a partnership among
the Lake Tahoe Development Co, RockResorts, and the
City of South Lake Tahoe.
