Named one of Golf Digest's top golf destinations for 2000, Reno-Tahoe boasts more than 50 championship courses ranging from links-style to high desert and from lofty mountain to lush terrain. The conditions here are close to perfect, with unique natural terrain, year-round temperate climate, convenient accessibility, and great elevation -- at 5,000 feet, you can expect an additional 10% distance on your shots.
Even the pros can't stay away. The PGA TOUR makes a stop in Reno, at the Reno-Tahoe Open at Montrêux Golf and Country Club each August. And in July, the annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship takes over Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe. With a purse of $500,000 and network television exposure, the Celebrity Golf Championship is considered the most prestigious and richest celebrity tournament in golf.
The Tahoe region has also attracted some of golf's leading course designers including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, John Harbottle and Hale Irwin. In the Carson City area, there is a slice of golf heaven known as the "Divine Nine" -- nine public golf courses within a few miles of each other, each with its own character and all providing plenty of challenge.
Reno-Tahoe has enough courses that you never have to play the same one twice - unless you want to, that is. For more golf information, click on the links below.
